A New Design Model of an MR Shock Absorber for Aircraft Landing Gear Systems Considering Major and Minor Pressure Losses: Experimental Validation

This work presents a novel design model of magnetorheological (MR) fluid-based shock absorber (MR in short) that can be applied to an aircraft landing gear system. When external force acts on MR absorber, pressure loss occurs at the flow path while resisting fluid flow. During motion, two losses occur: major loss, which is proportional rate, and minor square rate. In general, when designed for low stroke velocity systems such as automotive suspension system, consideration only well satisfied by experimental results. However, dynamic require high velocity, systems, effect becomes significant drop. this work, new considering both losses, proposed. After formulating mathematical model, prototype manufactured based parameters lightweight establishing drop test results versus stroke/stroke are investigated different impact energies. It shown from comparative evaluation proposed agrees with experiment much better than considers loss.
